Cold water swimming is generally a safe activity, however anything involving water can come with its own risks. Below is some safety tips for you to follow when in the water.
1.) Never go alone – Always go with a swim buddy or buddies, ensure atleast one of you have a charged mobile phone on you.
2.) Know your local area – Be in the know of tidal movements, weather and general conditions of the water. If the conditions are to rough, do not enter any water.
3.) Cold water shock – when taking the plunge it is advised to gradually enter the water rather than jumping straight in. This is done to help relax your breathing and control your body.
4.) Know your limits – be aware of your swimming capabilities, do not wade or swim past your depth if you are not the strongest swimmer.
